Even without bicycles, the journey continues and our goal remains, while we get closer and closer. If you are wondering how and where we spent New Year's Eve… well, no traditional fireworks but the natural colours of the sky. Those of a dreamlike sunset in front of the ocean, of a dry Italian pasta in a foreign land and a delicious local fish paired with good wine. We are really Italian in this, we love to share the most significant experiences in front of a good meal and perhaps it is precisely in these moments that the best stories are born.

Merry Christmas to all of you!

We are trying to make a list, one of these lists it would never be perfect, it would always miss or exceed in something. I am currently drafting our travel pack list. Halfway through I took a breath. It seems a long list. But, would we have all we possibly need? Right there, struggling with myself I’ve got a picture of a young. The one that would possibly receive a WBR Buffalo bicycle at the end of the fundraiser. A young that would not need (and possibly achieve) none of the fancy items we struggle fitting in our backpacks.
I think this can have a major significance for me. Even if I never met this young yet, if I’ll ever. At the same time, this image is carving my actions, like people in your same environment do as well.
After all, I have to admit that the helicopter fee we booked to fly over Mount Cook glacier it is not consistent at all from a conscious point of view, with the fact that it would easily cover the cost of a couple of bicycles for our same project. But life is silly and make jokes of us as soon as it can. We (lucky) have private energy provided straight to our homes, produced from some uncertain source -- either gas or fossil -- that creates pollution. Then we claim about glaciers melting and so forth. Even Greta Thunberg received a luxurious offer for a ride on the Arnold Schwarzenegger’ Tesla Model 3. What’s the environmental impact of producing the so called “green” Lithium batteries? A world of contradictions. I think these are all small talks, but I also think each one leave prints on this world. They can be positive, negative or so-so. It is upon us to choose their weight. This is also why I took the fundraiser. Every single step let a print: make it positive and conscious.

Our intangible suitcase
Every time we leave home for a new destination, we try to push all we can inside a suitcase. We check if our wallet has enough visa and passports and we try to prepare ourselves for a long queue at the airport check-in. These are all practical and essential things to do, but we don’t have to forget the most important aspect of a journey: our personal growth.

Last time we got lost through the lines, so it is time to continue our plan. In case you have missed the first part of the story you can read the post before.
After bringing back the bicycles, we’ll take public transportations to transfer toward Wellington. Here, it will start the second half of the journey. Christmas will be gone but New Year’s Eve would just begin, together with our exciting exploration of the northern Island. We plan to hire a car (actually, we have already booked it), but it would possibly be a treasure hunt to get it out of the ferry dock. On four wheels then, (always two each;-) we’ll climb through the center of the island. We’ll go searching for some hidden treasure as well. We’ll switch off the headlamps in the middle of a cave to spot some glowing swarm. We’ll hike around some of the most stunning geothermal area in the world, trying not to miss a hot pool… in other words, we’ll try to get a feeling of New Zealand, while acknowledging how lucky we are, simply to be.
Probably the hardest part would be to enjoy places without being overwhelmed by people, due to the fact that we’ll be there during high season. We do have some ace up one's sleeve as well.

Here we are with some more detail about our trip plan. Our departure is getting closer, but even faster is growing our excitement for this desired event, instilled with the great opportunity of this fundraiser. We’ll fly to the southern island after a really long flight (the longest I’ve ever done). Basically, we’ll leave the cold northern Italian weather for the unstable kiwi’s summer as we were told. We plan to visit some glorious friends that are going to share their bicycles with us for the first half of the journey. This excellent gift will allow us to explore the island along some of their major bicycle ways such as the Alps to Ocean and the Western Wilderness Trail. Of course, we have planned plenty of side activities (but not forcedly minor) and different ways to explore the wildlife and nature of this world unique environment.
You might know, a heavy problem when it comes to fly at the other side of the world and visit a place that have a lifetime offer of attractiveness, you have to cream off something, something that often look too much to cut. A good method I tested is to make a list. Then I take that list and cancel half of it. I’ll do it twice if not satisfied. Because less is more.
We decided would be much more exciting to have some fun time with our local friends, instead of bungee jump from a bridge. Even if it was first invented here, people say. Even if we’ll miss the stage from the Lord of the Ring, for a true kiwi host at first hand. We are going to find everything so new and pretty, we’re sure. Bicycling is sharing, bicycle is feeling. Bicycling is gifting the power of bicycles to someone else and this is our fundraiser: you’re welcome to participate!

Perché è vero, "less is more".

I do not even remember when I first thought about New Zealand, so well rooted inside me is this desire. Then, thinking more carefully, something starts to emerge from the mist of my mind. I think I was living in Cork City, Ireland at that time. I was in the middle of my twenty-second life year, as well as in the middle of my solo bicycle tour across Europe. I was enjoying a great time at a foreigner school with my classmates, when suddenly one in particular instilled me with the image of that dreamy Island.
As often happens with ideas, it started to settle deeper and deeper, becoming bigger and bigger.
I must admit, I was stoutly looking to something different from a mere leisure meaning. I was hoping to make my journey more valuable in some ways. Luckily my path crossed World Bicycle Relief a few weeks ago, an acknowledge that inspired me a lot. It took me several years and several tries, but I finally got to buy a fly ticket to the other side of the world. This time, I can literally say that.
I shortly read through the association bios and info’s. Subsequently, I tried their proactive and comprehensive support via direct contact. I scrolled other sources and users’ opinions. It is so, that I found myself happy and fulfilled by the purpose I was looking for and the possibility to share the power of bicycles with a personal fundraiser. Now, I can’t wait for this adventure to begin!

Credo stessi vivendo a Cork, Irlanda in quel periodo.
