With the most recent donations for my #bikepacking #adventure starting in 6 days time, we have reached the goal of 5.000 Euro. This means at least 34 #BuffaloBikes will be donated to #worldbicyclerelief projects.

I can´t stress enough how grateful I am with all your support, by donating or with very kind and supportive words.

Since there´s still 3 weeks to go until the end date of my project, I do wonder how many more bicycles you and I will be able to raise. Can we get to 45 in total? That would mean another 1.600 Euro needed.

´People first´ is a combination of words that you have to give meaning to yourself. And that is what they do at Newco Communications! 

Not only do they value their staff as being their greatest asset, they also put ´other´ people first. These other people in this case will be schoolgoing kids, nurses and female entrepreneurs, as @ncc_barcelona decided to donate the incredible amount of 1.500 Euro or 10 Buffalo Bikes to my challenge for World Bicycle Relief! 5️⃣ YEARS AGO...

I finished my fourth and - until now - last Spanish course at Linguaschools Barcelona language school.

When I decided to move to #Barcelona I was sure I wanted to be able to speak with locals. Therefore it was never in doubt whether or not I should learn #Spanish

I still remember the great experience at their beautiful school in the heart of the city, and it turns out they haven't forgotten about me neither.

LinguaSchools is #donating an entire #buffalobike to support my adventure next month. Thank you on behalf of those school boys and girls that will be able to attend a local school using the donated bicycle, just like thousands of happy #students have and will continue to come to your school!

Tot zo´n 6 maanden geleden was ik ofwel niet te vinden, of heel inactief op de verschillende social media platforms. Maar toen haalde ik het in mijn hoofd om 1.600 kilometer te gaan fietsen en daarmee geld in te zamelen voor een prachtig doel: World Bicycle Relief
En om de aandacht op mijn #fundraiser te vestigen is er één manier die ik niet kon uitsluiten: social media.
Maar hoe pak je dat aan, zo´n strategie om zichtbaar en functioneel te zijn op de verschillende netwerken? Zoals je kunt zien op de foto´s is het creëren van content om te beginnen al een uitdaging. En dan moet er nog een pakkende tekst of caption bij...
Gelukkig zijn er specialisten op dit gebied. En één van die specialisten is Maria Cappon van So-MC | Social Media Company. ´Hoe zit dat nou eigenlijk, met die fietsen van je?´

Dat kreeg ik af en toe te horen de laatste weken. Dus hier in het kort hoe dat nou eigenlijk zit, met die fietsen voor @worldbicyclerelief en mijn challenge.

Het belangrijkste blijft natuurlijk: doneren, doneren en doneren. Via de link in mijn bio.

Iedere Euro die je doneert gaat naar World Bicycle Relief. Zij verspreiden de Buffalo Bike onder scholieren, verpleegsters en vrouwelijke ondernemers, en dat vergroot de kansen die deze jongens, meisjes en vrouwen hebben. Er zijn projecten in o.a. #Colombia #Ghana #Kenya. Meer info over de projecten natuurlijk op de website

Wat is dat dan voor fiets? De Buffalo Bike is ontwikkeld als robuuste fiets om op bijna alle ondergronden en met zo min mogelijk onderhoud als vervoermiddel te kunnen dienen.

Wat kost dat nou? Een Buffalo Bike heb je al voor 147 Euro, een reparatieset voor 49 Euro en een set wielen voor maar 26 Euro. En daarmee kun je dus een scholier een schoolcarriere bieden, of een verpleegster de mogelijkheid meer mensen te bereiken.

En ik fiets dus op mijn @giantbicycles road bike van Nederland naar Barcelona, in april 2022, in twee weken tijd, om zoveel mogelijk geld voor Buffalo fietsen in te kunnen zamelen!

Nailed it!

At the start of 2021 I set a goal to myself, which was to cycle 3000km during the whole year. It took me 11,75 months, but today I pedalled away the last missing miles.

The bicycle and my legs will be given a short rest now, but will be back for more exciting rides in 2022. Of course continuing to prepare for the #WorldBicycleRelief challenge next April. Cycling 3000km in a year is one thing, but how about 1600km in only two weeks while raising money for the good cause?

I reckon most of you have seen a picture taken from #Tibidabo hill before, but the chances I was starring in it are small. You most likely know it´s for a reason I star in these pictures now. and you may have heard it´s because of the #challenge that I put for myself.

In April next year I will cycle from The Netherlands to Barcelona, Spain, to support World Bicycle Relief and fundraise in order for them to spread #BuffaloBikes in rural areas where these bikes really make a difference.

Before you #donate on using the link in my bio, you might want to know more about the route I will be #cycling. Well, here you go.

The #bikepacking journey will take me through Belgium, Luxembourg and France, before crossing the border with Spain again. Around 1.600km on flat roads, hilly sections and even some real mountains. Headwinds, tailwinds, crosswinds; rain, hail and sunshine; I will encounter it all before arriving in Barcelona 2 weeks after I left.

I will start sharing more about the stages soon, but I can tell you the first one gets me through #Zeeland province, passing #Antwerp and will end along the Belgian Albert canal, where I hope to find a nice #campingspot to stay the night.

🇺🇲 Why will I be #cycling 1600km in April 2022 to support World Bicycle Relief, and how can you #donate?

World Bicycle Relief is a NGO organisation who´s aim is to spread bicycles in regions where mobility is an issue to grow in daily life. Think about bicycles for kids to attend school, so that they don´t have to walk there every day. There´s also health care workers, using bicycles to be able to reach distant small towns. And the local farmers, using bicycles to get their goods to the local market, faster and without the products losing freshness.

I know the power of bicycles and I believe that supporting a charity has an even higher impact when you truly believe in the projects they support. This combination makes World Bicycle Relief the perfect charity for me to support in my challenge.

World Bicycle Relief has had an enormous impact since it was established in 2005. In 2019 they reached the milestone of 500.000 bicycles spread to local communities. On top of that more than 2.000 bicycle mechanics have been schooled, prolonging the life cycle of the bicycles, and increasing the quality of the local workforce.

Cycling from my hometown in The Netherlands to Barcelona in Spain, where I have been living for the last 6 years, will be a trip down memory lane as well as a ride to a city that´s developing itself as bicycle-focussed over the years. The first days will be riding on those roads that I got to know when growing up. In France and Spain I will be able to experience the effects of local governments investing in bike lanes and bicycle awareness. This way I aim to support World Bicycle Relief while showing my supporters the power of the bicycle close to home.

Six years ago I moved from The Netherlands to Spain, from the town of Goes to the city of Barcelona. A relatively small step for me, especially in terms of financial impact. The flight ticket from Brussels to Barcelona was only 50 Euro, and for that price I will be back in home town in about 3 hours.

To be able to commute has always been very easy for me. Either walking on proper shoes, cheap by bus or airplane, in a rented car or - my personal favorite - by bicycle. Commuting, travelling, moving, are not as easy or accessible for many people. Having to walk for hours to get to school, no access to transportation means to get your own produced goods to the local market, no doctors that can visit you when you're ill; we can hardly imagine it nowadays, but for millions of people it is a daily struggle.

I believe that bicycles, that have brought me to so many places, and have given me so much joy, can make lives more beautiful and help develop people and communities. World Bicycle Relief thinks so, too, and created a wonderful program to bring the power of bicycles to places where they will have an enormous impact.
